Hans Austen was born 1905 in Leipzig, Germany. Being Jewish he fled with his family in the mid-thirties to Sweden and 1940 adventurously to the United States. In New York he founded the Austen Display Company. In 1970 he returned to Europe with his wife Sulamith and lived as retiree in Zug. He died on April 19, 1992.
